Schengen visa / short-term stay in Germany

Generally speaking, holders of a BN(O), HKSAR or Macau SAR passport do not need a visa to visit the Schengen area as a tourist for up to 90 days in any six-month period, provided that no employment is taken. More on visa requirements can be found below:

Schengen Visa

A visa issued by any Schengen member country allows free travel across the borders between and/or among Schengen countries unless otherwise stated in the visa. Schengen countries include Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The maximum period of stay allowed is 90 days within 6 months, with one or multiple entries, provided no employment is taken.

Competent Visa Office
The consulate general of the country of your main destination should issue your visa. If you visit more than one Schengen country and the main destination cannot be determined, please submit your application at the consulate general of the country of first entry.

Please note that the German Consulate General also issues visas on behalf of Portugal and Slovenia, which are no longer represented in Hong Kong. Therefore, if you are a Hong Kong resident and your main destination is Portugal or Slovenia, you may apply for a Tourist Visa or a Business Visa at the German Consulate General. For other types of visas, please contact the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau or the Embassy of Slovenia in Beijing respectively.

Only Hong Kong and Macau residents may apply for visas at the German Consulate General in Hong Kong. If you are living in Mainland China, please consult the following website to locate the responsible German mission in your area: (in German and Chinese only)
