Statement regarding the collection and use of personal data

Every time a user accesses the Federal Foreign Office's internet site or downloads a file, data concerning this operation is temporarily stored in a log file and processed.

Before being saved, all data is anonymised by changing the IP address.

The following information in particular is collected every time the site is accessed or a file downloaded:

  • anonymised IP address,
  • date and time,
  • page or file accessed,
  • amount of data transferred,
  • status message about the success of the access or download.

This data is evaluated solely for statistical purposes and for the improvement of our services, and then deleted.

The data is not used for any other purpose or passed on to third parties.

When certain pages are accessed, a temporary cookie is used to make navigation easier. These session cookies do not contain personal data and expire after each session.

Technology such as Java applets and ActiveX controls that make it possible to track the access patterns of users are not used.

Postal and e-mail addresses provided in the course of making requests or submitting orders for informational material are used exclusively for correspondence and delivery purposes.

The Press Section

The Press Section is responsible for the Consulate General's media contacts. It provides information on German government policies, answers questions on political issues related to Germany, handles requests for interviews and statements by the Hong Kong and Macau media, helps media representatives to get in touch with people in Germany, gives advice on how to cover interesting topics, liaises with correspondents of German media based in Hong Kong and Macau, among other tasks and responsibilities.
